Collaboration with other Teachers
We had an opportunity to work with the fourth grade class. Mr. Dowell did an amazing job teaching about reading comprehension and phonemic awareness. He informed the class that fourth grade is focused more on the comprehension part of reading. While first grade does focus on comprehension there are other components such as phonemic awareness that we do focus on. Our lesson focused on language arts. He read a halloween story and then the children were buddied up with a fourth grader. Their activity was to work together with a partner on sequencing. We also had a scarecrow that we had to take to our class because time did not permit us complete the whole activity that was planned for us that day due to pictures. However, we are going to try to do it once a month. I will keep you informed. I want to thank all of Mr. Dowell's students for their respect and patience. They were exemplary model students. Your leadership is greatly appreciated.
My children just loved working with the fourth graders. They wrote letters to thank Mr. Dowell and his students. What was covered in one lesson? A read aloud, sequencing, an art craft to connect to the story and a writing component. This makes it much more interesting and meaningful when you can tie in all these skills together and have fun with the lesson.
Here are some pictures I took. I hope you enjoy them! :)
