Columbus Day/ Federal Holidays
The children had a short week due to parent teacher conferences. Since we had a holiday, we needed to learn about this explorer.
Aren't these ships in a bottle the cutest craft to go with the lesson. They are posted in the back of the room. If you would like to come in the classroom to view, we would love for you to view them.
- We read a biography of Christopher Columbus and learned many facts about him.
- We read poems and sang songs.
- Learned new vocabulary words.
- Made anchor charts.
- We also made finger puppets to go with the song.
- The children are currently working on pop up booklets about Christopher Columbus. They are drawing and coloring some beautiful illustrations. I hope they will be finished by Friday.
- We also filled out a KWL chart to see how much we knew about Christopher Columbus and everyone was in agreement that they did not know to much about him. They did want to learn more. As we read the book, they talked about Marco Polo and the children wanted to know about him. So we will be reading about him next week.
- We will also do a math activity that will have Columbus' ship.
